Building Bridges Over a Casual Summer Drink

While the formal establishment of a National WISTA Association involves rigorous planning, the heart of WISTA Malta was truly forged in the relaxed atmosphere of a casual summer meet-up. This informal gathering served as a vital “regrouping” for our founding members, offering a space away from the professional pressures of the maritime industry to connect on a personal level. Amidst the clinking of glasses and the warm evening breeze, the intensity of our shared goals felt less like a task and more like a shared passion. It was in this unscripted environment that the founding team could candidly discuss their hopes for the association, ensuring that our foundation was built not just on professional alignment, but on genuine friendship and mutual trust.

The evening took on an even more significant dimension as we were joined by several WISTA Sisters from other NWAs who happened to be in Malta. This spontaneous exchange transformed a local get-together into a vibrant international crossroads. These visiting sisters shared stories of their own associations’ early days, offering “lessons learned” and encouragement that proved invaluable to our founding group. This intersection of local ambition and global experience highlighted the unique nature of the WISTA network: the ability to find a supportive community anywhere in the world. By the end of the night, it was clear that WISTA Malta’s vision, to empower women and foster excellence in maritime, was part of a much larger, global tapestry of sisterhood, all solidified through the simple, powerful act of a casual conversation.
